Off Road

Two and a half years ago, I started a blog, with the borrowed name "On the Road", to capture our experiences as Garry and I drove across the lovely landscape of America, from Virginia to California and back again. I loved that trip, which marked the entry to a new and sweet chapter of my life. And I enjoyed writing about it, in those little snippets that I posted.

But I never did finish that blog -- just as I did not want to finish the trip. The closer we got to home, the more we put off getting home. We spent a night in Charlottesville, a mere two hour drive from home. We dallied in the charming little town of Culpeper, an hour from home. Then we stopped for a tasting at a local vineyard.

The wine and the trip -- and the heady feeling of freedom that we enjoyed as we traveled down the road top-down --were delicious beyond our imagining. And so, the story did not have an end...

Now I find myself about to embark on another big adventure, and hoping to continue writing in stolen moments after our return. I have learned that the journey really need not come to an end, and that coming home is only a stopover between adventures. For -- like a shuttle making its way through warp threads to create its fabric -- we are only passing through, as we create the fabric of our lives.
